One of the most enjoyable aspects of mountain biking is of course the fun descents! It is an exciting challenge to design and build a truly high quality downhill trail. Depending on the terrain, opportunities for optional or included features, flow, and safety are all considerations included in downhill optimized trails. Careful construction of turns using decreasing radius turns, appropriately sized and shaped berms is a main component of any great descent. Features such as rollers, jumps, doubles, rock gardens, or drops offer additional fun and should be incorporated in thoughtful locations where they work with trail speed, flow, terrain, and safe sight lines of the approach and exit/landing. A successfully designed and built descent will deliver fun, thrills, smiles, and the desire to come back for more!
